Kid-Friendly Kitchen

Create a Kid-Friendly Kitchen

Between meal times, cooking, and snacks, a lot of time is spent in the kitchen. Make it a place the whole family wants to be including your kids! D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling found a few clever ideas to make your kitchen kid-friendly.

Kid’s niche
If you’re spending a lot of time in the kitchen in the evenings when the whole family is home, make it a comfortable place for your kids to be by creating a space where they can sit for activities and still interact with you as you prepare a meal.

Within their reach and at their height
Kitchen cabinets and appliances are pretty standard, but there are a few options and ideas that will help your child be involved in meal preparation. Install microwaves and a small refrigerator at their level so they can independently get snacks together, or, install counters with a low spot that is exactly their height!

Send a message
Chalkboard paint is a trendy addition to home decorating in recent years. Use it on a kitchen wall for a fun and creative kitchen environment. Kids can draw designs or put up cookie recipes for easy review as they bake!

Command center
Keep control of the chaos in your home from the kitchen by creating a command center to keep the whole family organized. Put up a calendar and keep track of everyone’s papers, mail, and permission slips in bins.

Making a kid-friendly kitchen is more than just having chocolate chip cookies at the ready. It’s creating a space where they can talk to you while you bake for them and even jump in to help!

Kid’s Bedroom Remodels

Kid’s Bedroom Remodels

The easiest way to make a change in your kid’s room is by putting up a fresh coat of paint and remodeling in a child’s bedroom may seem far-fetched, but there are some sensible changes you can make that can serve both function and fun.

Love of learning
Your children have to do homework whether they like it or not, so make it a more enjoyable experience by creating a space that encourages the love of learning. Install bookshelves, a desk with plenty of space for open books and notes, and the proper lighting.

Fun and functional bedtime
Sleep is important for your little ones. Make a space they will be excited to hop into each night. You can purchase a furniture piece to suit or create built-ins that maximize your space and make for a good night of sleep.

Dash of detail
Make your kid’s room a fun place to be! Add details like wall or ceiling décor, funky lighting, or unique furnishings and accents that will make your child feel like their bedroom is a special place!

Super storage
Kids acquire a lot of stuff in their lifetime! Install shelving and storage that will accommodate their growing number of possessions. Think ahead by putting in storage for toys that will easily translate into other storage as they grow and develop interests and hobbies.

Purely play
Sometimes, it’s ok to just make your home a fun place to be and that can start in your child’s bedroom. Get creative and exploit their interests to create a great play space that they can truly call their own!

Your kid’s room might not be the first place you think of for a remodel, but D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling thinks you should take your options into consideration! Your kid’s room has a lot of potential to be a great space for your child to enjoy!

Color in your Kitchen

A Colorful Kitchen

Maybe you enjoy spending time in the kitchen and consider yourself a culinary artist or perhaps you end up spending time in the kitchen whether you want to or not. Either way, you can make the kitchen a more enjoyable place to whip up those foodie marvels by adding some color to space. We are not just talking about a coat of paint on the walls. D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling has an assortment of ways to add color to your kitchen!

Cabinets
In most homes, the kitchen cabinets take up a lot of wall space! So, instead of adding a dab of paint where the wall peeks out, color your space in a big way by painting your cabinets in color.

Inside the Cupboard
A unique way to add color to your kitchen is to look past the outside of the cabinets and paint the inside with color. It will add interest to your kitchen space and create a backdrop for your dishes!

Counter Tops
Usually, homeowners pick counter tops that blend into the design. At D. J.’s Painting and Remodeling, we know the counter top should always coordinate with the rest of the design, but there’s no reason it can’t add interest!

Flooring
Did you know you could add color with your flooring? This option is a little more permanent than most, so D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling encourages you to proceed with caution! However, installing colorful flooring is a creative way to add color to your kitchen!

Appliances
You can get a pop of color in your kitchen from colorful appliances. Don’t believe us? Believe it!  If you’re feeling incredibly nostalgic or if you are aiming for a modern tone, the hues exist to add interest and depth to your kitchen.

Back Splash
A back splash can change the whole look of your kitchen. Choose a tile for that space between your counter and cabinets that adds a little color to the gap. You can go for bold color and designs or subtle hints!

Open Shelving
If your dishes and serving platters have a colorful appearance, open up the shelving to put them on display! Make use of what you already have to add pops of color in your kitchen décor.

If you’re looking for a way to add interest to your kitchen design, consider color as a powerful tool. Check out different kitchen designs to see which kitchen element you would want to serve as your platform for color!

3 Elements of the Living Room you can take to your Outdoor Living Space

Inside Out: 3 Elements of the Living Room you can take to your Outdoor Living Space

Your outdoor living space should be as comfortable as your indoor living spaces. At D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling, we value the ability to have the same level of comfort outdoors as you would have in your own living room. There are small elements that will help you start to turn your home inside out by making the outdoors an extension of the interior.

Light it Up
Lighting is key to creating an outdoor living space. Dave Juarez, owner of D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling, states, “It is a way to make the outdoors feel like another room in your house because it encourages your family to move outside. When there is proper lighting outdoors in the evening when your family is there to enjoy it, they’ll feel more able to use the space.”

Plant Life and Indoor Decor
Take your house plants outside! Maybe not all of them, but a few potted plants in the outdoor living space can make it feel more like a living space. Do the same with your décor. A colorful rug on the porch or patio will pull the space together. You can put artwork on display that can withstand the elements to add another touch of the indoors like a decorative mirror or statue.

Seating and Comfort
Take plenty of pillows and chairs to your outdoor living space. Adequate and comfortable seating will encourage family and guests to use the outdoor living space when they have a seat to themselves and feel comfortable spending more than a moment there. Add throw pillows and cushions to add even more comfort.

Just a few small elements can add so much to your outdoor living space. Of course, there are much bigger changes you could make to your outdoor living space to make it an outdoor haven for your family and friends, but at D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling, we want you to know that small changes can have a great impact as well!
