Making Everyday Objects Decorative

Making Everyday Objects Decorative

Instead of agonizing over how to decorate your home and what pieces to use, simplify your life by using everyday objects in your home as the decoration. D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling thinks that objects already in your home can serve as décor if you take advantage of what you have!

Books
A book doesn’t have to just sit on the shelf. It can complete the shelf! By layering the books and positioning some horizontally in stacks, you can create lines that are appealing to the eye. Place a small ceramic piece on top of the stack and create interest rather than just a wall of solid books!

Pillows
You can keep your throw pillow in a corner of your couch or you can allow them to stand out! Picking textures and colors make them a noticeable accent piece rather than a boring piece of fluff that fades into the background. Juarez, owner of D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling, states, “It’s simpler to play with colors and textures in objects like the throw pillows because those are so easily changed out. Experiment and see what you come up with that suits you!”

Pictures
Strategic placement of framed photos and paintings can enhance the look of the room by making the walls look full. A lone picture on a wall may seem out of place, but there are a lot of ways to place the frames so that they take up the best amount of space. There are also a lot of creative ideas out there for displaying pictures and not just hanging them on the walls! Layering them on a shelf can create interest and allow you to be creative with your wall art!

Mirrors
The same goes for mirrors! You may need a mirror in an entryway to do a last minute check before heading out the door for the day, but you can have a practical use and still make it decorative. Use a mirror with a decorative or brightly colored frame. Or, you can use multiple mirrors to create an interesting design on your wall.

Collectibles and Keepsakes
If you have a collection of beautiful plates or teacups or vases, put them out where people can see them! Find a good way to display the items, whether it be on a shelf or on the wall. Juarez says, “The same is true for things you collect or keepsakes that have been passed down-they are a part of you and you can let others people see what you value by working them into the decorations in your home.

D.J.’s Painting and Remodeling things everything in your home should be about the extraordinary people who live inside, so make it reflect you and make it easy on yourself! Use what you have to complement your style!
